Munch y la cagada de pájaro

Dicen que dicen por Noruega que Munch gustaba de pintar al aire libre. Según cierta leyenda urbana, cuando estaba pintando El Grito , un pájaro decidió arrojar sus excrementos, de modo que todavía hoy se puede observar una mancha blanca en el cuadro. ¿Tiene esta historia algo de verdad? Reading a paper: a touch of humor

Reading papers is part of the daily live of a researcher. It is the way to know which are the latest innovations in our field and also the way to learn about unknown areas.
That is why during this course you will learn how to read and how to write scientific papers, especially in the field of Analytical Chemistry.
I took some comics from PhDComis website related to this topic. If you do not know the website, check it out. Perhaps you do not find it amusing but, if you decide to follow a research career, you will.
But, please, take into account that the facts are exaggerated. Reading papers is not that boring!

De cómo una piedra reescribió la historia

Una piedra, una pequeña e insignificante piedra. Eso es lo que necesitó Muhammed edh-dhib, el Lobo, para reescribir la historia. Y es que, a veces, los hechos más banales acarrean consecuencias inverosímiles. Cuando este joven pastor beduino lanzó esa pequeña roca dentro de una cueva no sabía que iba a propiciar uno de los descubrimientos más importantes de su siglo. La piedra atravesó la oscura galería hasta estrellarse contra una vasija y el sonido de la cerámica haciéndose añicos desveló al pastor que allí dentro se escondía algún secreto. Es 1947 y nos encontramos en Qumrán, cerca de Jericó. Después de una eternidad, los manuscritos del mar Muerto acaban de salir a la luz. Leer más.

Fluorescence Friday (LW1)

In this lab work we quantified quinine in tonic water using fluorimetric detection. We also observed the fluorescence of other products: curry, detergent, eosin dye, eggs and two cardiovascular drugs.
